The original design for sulfuric acid production technology specified the compressor 1112-3700/0.41 to increase pressure of a mixture of air and sulfur dioxide.
The compressor is designed to be one-stage, double-entry. The stage is designed with two impellers according to 'back-to-back' layout, divided by a spacer, and two separate vaned diffusers after which it is divided by a 'cowl' and enters two collection chambers. The compressor is driven by a synchronous motor. The compressor rotor is rotated directly by the motor through a coupling.
